Aging Should Be Stopped and Suicide Should Be Effectively Legal

Aging should be stopped and suicide should be effectively illegal, at least for adults. Aging is tragic and bad. Humans die from aging. Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence is what SENS stands for. Aubrey de Grey has helped to start an organization called SENS Research Foundation. He wrote a book called Ending Aging: The Rejuvenation Breakthroughs That Could Reverse Human Aging in Our Lifetime.

Suicide is currently effectively illegal. Thomas Szasz, a psychiatrist, wrote about thirty five books. He wrote books such as Psychiatric Slavery, Fatal Freedom: The Ethics and Politics of Suicide and Suicide Prohibition: The Shame of Medicine. Both aging and suicide are tragic. That does not mean that aging should be accepted as something that is inevitable nor that suicide is something that justifies using coercion and force on law abiding adults. 

It seems that SENS technologies are not desirable if suicide is not effectively legal. It is civil commitment and psychiatric holds that effectively outlaw suicides. Hopefully aging will be stopped sooner rather than later. Hopefully suicide will be effectively legal sooner rather than later. It is unfortunate that so many individuals support using coercion and force against law abiding adults. It is not morally correct to use coercion and force on adults who attempt suicide or are intent on engaging in suicide. 

SENS technologies are only desirable if suicide is not effectively illegal. Suicide is tragic. However, only persuasion and kindness should be used stop adults from engaging in suicide in private. Of course, public suicide should not be legal, just like it is not legal to have intimate relations in public. 

Hopefully all humans on Earth can live long lives of abundance, peace, prosperity, joy, bliss and elation. Hopefully no humans will want to engage in suicide. Hopefully all humans will be able to create lives worth living for their own selves. Hopefully more individuals will realize that aging should be stopped and reversed and that suicide should be effectively legal, at least for adults. 

All Humans Deserve Happiness

I want all humans on Earth to be happy. This means that all humans will have to respect the rights of others. So, if someone breaks a law, then they should be criminally punished. Of course, unjust laws should be abolished and repealed. Just laws should be enforced.

If someone is not willing to respect the rights of others then they deserve criminal punishment if they are breaking a law. It is unfortunate that unjust laws exist. Unjust laws include things like the laws that allow for civil commitment, psychiatric holds, the insanity defense and the laws that allow for the incarceration and jailing of drug users who are not violent and respect the rights of others.

Perhaps Heaven can be created on Earth. Utopias are perhaps a secular way of thinking about Heaven. A utopia is a Heaven without a spiritual component. Ironically, creating a utopia may not be at all possible without a spiritual component. Spirituality can be a natural thing. Humans have embraced spirituality for thousands of years.

Therefore, it might just be best to use spiritual language and talk about Heaven, rather than use words like utopia. Hopefully more humans on Earth will attempt to create Heaven on Earth sooner rather than later. The idea of Heaven is quite wonderful. Heaven is a theoretical state and/or place in which one experiences perfect peace and happiness all of the time and indefinitely. There are perhaps many ways to define Heaven.

In the book The Art of Peace, Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, is quoted as referring to budo as being a means of creating Heaven on Earth. Budo is a Japanese word and can be translated to mean way of war, as I understand it. Perhaps the only war that will be effective in creating Heaven and peace on Earth is if we each wage a war on our own negativity and impulses to use force and coercion on others. Hopefully all humans will see the injustice of using force and coercion on innocent individuals who respect the rights of others. Hopefully Heaven will be manifested on Earth sooner rather than later.
